Cleaner, better parts

Turned Part specialist Wealdpark Ltd will showcase its new solvent cleaning capability that allows it to provide customers with higher quality components.

The £60,000 Firbimatic system ensures a high degree of cleanliness and complements an aqueous cleaning system that was installed last year.

The component handling system in the new equipment also helps in preventing damage to delicate and precise components. Both these factors are important to Wealdpark’s customers, which come from a wide variety of industries, including the electrical, fluid power and pneumatics sectors. Much of the work is in brass, and much of it goes on to be plated, so surface finish is particularly important.

Phil Smith of Wealdpark says: “Customers are looking for higher finishes and minimal surface damage. A lot of our work is plated and the cleaner parts are giving a better plated finish. The end result is that the customer is getting a better product.”

The company now has 12 Star sliding head CNC lathes as well as Miyano and Doosan fixed head lathes. Three of the Star machines a 32mm, a 20mm and a 16mm, were installed in the last twelve months, with the two larger lathes being guide-bushless machines. This ensures much shorter bar ends – a key cost saving when working with brass – which allows Wealdpark to stay competitive.
